Chief has been tattooing for over 5 years, professionally since 2010. He has clientele in all corners of the nation and has tattooed in Wisconsin, Virginia, Maine, and finally here in Muskegon Michigan. Chief has a versatile tattoo style ranging from traditional to detailed realistic; vibrant bold color to subtle shades of black and gray. Chief has a strong work ethic and good customer focus. Chief Betzing is a Millington, Michigan, native and has been creating art from his surroundings and experiences for most of his life. He began as a fine artist and has created hundreds of fine art pieces held in private collections throughout the United States and is registered as an official Coast Guard Artist and has also been commissioned to create works for the Air Force, and the Navy Special Warfare community. He is an award winning fine artist whose work has been featured on Military.com and in various news articles across the country. He has earned accolades in several art shows and juried exhibitions across the nation. Working in most mediums, he has created works ranging from airbrushed low-riders, to paintings represented by a gallery, and even large scale murals.
Born in 1974, Chief graduated from Millington High School in 1992 and married his high school sweetheart. Today, they have 3 wonderful children and 2 beautiful granddaughters. In 1994, Chief joined the US Coast Guard and is still serving his country with over 16 years service and over 10 years spent on ships. This has had a definite impact on his subject matter and introduced him to a maritime community and the rich nautical traditions of the sea going services. He has been stationed all across the U.S. and has visited many countries. His career has spanned from an ice breaking ship on the frigid Great lakes to the beautiful warm waters of the Caribbean.
Chief and his family are socially conscious and have a history of volunteering with the American Red Cross, the Salvation Army, Cape Elizabeth Land Trust, local women’s and children’s shelters, food banks, and adopting several families for the holidays. In 2001, Chief partnered with a military youth center at Selfridge Air National Guard Base near Mt. Clemens MI to and personally donated over 500 hours to create an undersea mural spanning over 1000 square feet.
Chief is also available to create graphic and logo designs at a reasonable rate.
